OUR STORY
Cornerstone Wealth was founded by Simon Sayer, Hugh Crankshaw and Wimpie Maass in 2011.
The team had spent their entire careers working for large corporates and met in 2001 when their paths crossed while working for Standard Bank. During the next 10 years, Simon moved up the ranks into an Executive role having joined the bank after university. Hugh joined in a senior management capacity in the Eastern Cape and progressed to the National Operations Executive for the bank Financial Planning Business Unit. Wimpie who had joined the bank as a junior financial planner progressed to running the Private Wealth Planning for the Port Elizabeth Area.
Why did we start the business?
We came to the realisation that large scale corporate businesses were becoming more and more disconnected from their actual customers. Our thought was if we could build a business that brought back this client intimacy – there could be a massive opportunity to build a business.
The three of us co-founded the business with the vision to provide a personal, professional service to clients who value that personal touch in an industry where call centres, automated responses, gimmicky marketing and, since then, faceless internet interactions are becoming more commonplace. Our feeling is this development has been great for the corporates BUT much to the detriment of the consumer who is left disempowered in having to deal, on their own, with the slick direct insurance companies.
